Kids Club

Some of the teachers: Tim Troyer, Lance Graber, Conroy Lowen, and Caleb Ramer. Have you ever tried to get four guys to pose for a picture? Everyone smiling and no eyes closed? :-P
Andy Martin and I also help and it sounds like Wayne Hershey might start helping too.
K, so I DON'T like this picture but its the only one I can find of leading singing... And yes, Zayvior sitting on the table following along with his finger on the song sheet is very typical... I always have the kids take turns picking a song and than they hold it for me... While I do the motions for people to follow along.

 I failed to get a picture of Lance doing an object lesson with the kids... Bugs me. The guys all take turns doing a Bible story and/or an object lesson of some sort... Then we start craft... Which is what this picture is of... It was bookworm bookmarks tonight... Anybody have any good craft idea's for kids from the age of five through 12/13? That only take 10 minutes or so... :-P
Doing Craft
I have no idea what they were talking about but this picture reminded me again about how we're leaning that communicating with the other teachers throughout the evening in order to know where everybody is and what everybody is doing is very very important.
Hymlie (yes, it's Spanish, and yes, I know I spelled it wrong, and yes, some of the kids are Mexican/Native American) came barging into their conversation made a comment of some sort to Lance while waving something aloft in one hand... Then continued happily on his way.
I can not, for the life of me, remember most of the kids names... Even thought allot of them have mine figured out because they go to the St. Francis mission school here. One of the kids asked me last time if I was named after St. Francis, when I said no he looked a little beat out and said bummer.
                                                Snack, Conroy's wife Carrisa makes it for us.
                  "Freeze", I was surprised she actually listened to me, most of the kids are camera shy.
There was a great big ditch-mower sitting in the parking lot tonight that a bunch of the kids decided to investigate... Until the guys made them get down.
We played Freeze-Tag tonight... Often its duck-duck-goose, blind-mans-bluff, or hid-the-thimble.
I was getting ready to shoot a picture of the little girl on the right and the other little girl, who was "frozen" at the time, looked around to make sure that no one was looking and scooched over onto the picture. :)
The guys run them all home by eight o'clock after an hour of what the kids call "church"... Every once in while one of the kids accidentally calls me "sister" because of attending the catholic school and church and having nuns for teachers... So, though many of them do hang on to the old Ojibwa beliefs, most of them have some Catholicism mixed in.
 I failed to mention is that the guys always meet before hand and have prayer... I always chicken out and tell Lance that I can pray at home... And often I pray that God will send another girl along to help me... I'm slightly outnumbered... So yeah, that's what NBCC is... We'd love to have your prayers.

I want to, I want to, I want to, I want to...

Brad asked Lance tonight if he could use his computer while Lance was busy doing something else and Lance jokingly told him that he wanted a 500 word report on why Brad thought he should be allowed to.
Brads reply was: "I want to, I want to, I want to, I want to..." And then he laughed and said "thanks Lance", and with out any further ado helped himself to Lances computer.
  And it made me think, how often in life do I ask God for something. And when He says, what are your reasons for this? My reply is: "I want to, I want to, I want to..." and than, with a half sheepish laugh, I dive into it.
  A little while later, when Brad was half way into the game, Lance came along and quietly lifted the computer out of his lap and took over. Probably finishing the game himself.
  How often does God have to come along, take the project out of our hands, and finish it Himself with His own capable hands?
  What is your project today? ~Francis

Sugar on Snow

Several weeks ago Margie asked me if I would consider doing the Milliner shop at Sugar on Snow this year. I thought to myself "well it can't be that hard to do", and since I'd helped her with it last year I pretty much knew what to expect.
                                       Btw. All pictures on this post are courtesy of Clark Graber and Tim Troyer.
You know, it'd mean quietly sitting in my pretty little shop with hats and dresses and tea cups on all the shelves and counters and sewing something perhaps, or decorating a hat or two. Maybe, once in a while I might have to say a few words to somebody. But all-in-all it would be a fairly relaxing and enjoyable way to spend Sugar on Snow... Somehow it did not quite seem to work that way.

There were little girls to help into costumes. Actually, I helped a little boy into a costume as well… He did not seem to appreciate knickers and a colonial shirt much though.DSCN6195
This little guy came to me and asked. “Um, um, do you have any little boy dresses?”! He took one look at the little boys outfit that I had, blushed furiously, and changed his mind, poor kid.  DSCN6443
Anna helped me, it was rather wonderful having somebody on hand all the time… She did get bored some though I think, sorry Anna. DSCN6196

We ended up doing a lot of sewing, I thought it was kinda funny how the “Milliner” did get a lot of Millinerish sorts of questions from the other interpreters and people working there. “*Do you have a pin? * You wouldn’t happen to have a scrap of fabric would you? *Hey, can I borrow your needle and thread… Um, white thread. *Hey, I need your scissors for a minute, thanks.” And so on and so forth. My scotch tape, packing tape, and masking tape, not to mention the scissors Lattins had brought me, all disappeared the first day and I didn’t see them again until I was packing up to leave… Never did get my masking tape back actually. Smile Hey cool!!! This program animates my smiley faces! Smile Maybe I’ll just spend the rest of the post making faces. Smile with tongue out Okay never mind, I’m more mature than that.
                                        And there were invasions of several sorts.

                                              * The people-trying-on-hats sort.  047
                          * The little girls who-wanna-see-the-teacups-and-buttons sort. DSCN6672
                                        * The small-and-adorable-nephew sort. 184
          * And then there was the photographer-who-wants-a-picture-of-the-hat sort.
There were also several invasions of ladies-wishing-to-talk… But no one got a picture of that I guess… At least I could not find one.
Saturday night by the time we got back to the cabin I was thoroughly tired out, regardless of the gigantic amount of caffeine I had consumed that day. Sunday we had church at the community center and Paul Tainter preached a sermon on the prodigal sons father.  Lance and I headed home around 5:00 o’clock to keep the stoves going here until the rest got home Monday. It was rather wonderful to be back to our nice quite house. I always realize again at Sugar on Snow that I am not a person who likes crowds of people. But it did go very well, for which I am very thankful. And I hope Margie enjoys doing it as well next year as I did this year… Cuz she sure isn’t gonna talk me into another “quiet and relaxing” Sugar on Snow like that again! Smile
Have a great week!   ~Francis
